Ferguson & Shamamian Architects, a high-end residential architecture firm, is seeking a full-time Specification Writer who will act as the technical liaison to project teams and coordinate project specifications deliverables throughout all phases of the design project. The ideal candidate will possess high levels of collaboration, multi-tasking skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally amongst all firm projects, with a desire to educate and mentor teams.
Understand product design requirements and translate those requirements into specifications for materials, methods, equipment, procedures, installation, to install and erect building components
Compliant with quality control and quality assurance processes validate with applicable codes, regulations, and standards
Research and make available specification technical resource tools to project teams
Provide design and technical observations and purpose solutions
Interview project teams and review architectural plans to prepare specifications; assist teams in determining materials and requirements for projects, consult with Project Managers, and Contractors as required, to meet deadlines
Prepare the product technical specifications package for the project including a checklist for each specification section.
Participate in drawing reviews with teams
Maintain and organize specification master files and supporting documentation, such a product materials, and reference standards
5-10 years of experience in an AE industry
Previous experience with medium and large-scale projects including wood frame, concrete, and steel structures
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, PDF editing software (Bluebeam, Adobe, etc.), and AutoCAD
Knowledge of residential design, industry trends, construction methodology, and material application
Understanding of building codes, building systems, and material standards and assemblies
Excellent writing and communication skills
Construction Management Degree
CSI Certification such as CDT (Construction Documents Technology) or CCS (Certified Construction Specifier) or equivalent
Knowledge of sustainable principles – LEED accreditation preferred
Experienced in Masterspec and/or BSD Speclink
